PC vs. Mac

Last Friday, December 15th was the end of the fall semester at the high school at which I teach.  I get two weeks off from teaching (I always treasure this perk) and it is always my hope that my time off will be restful as well as productive.
Restful it’s been…productive it’s not.  Something happened with my Pentium-based system last week, and I have not been able to access the Internet from my computer since.  Not exactly sure why yet…my husband, being the fix-it man he is, has been trying to work on the problem while wrapping up his soon-to-be published work.  He’s got a deadline, so I’ve been trying not to be so antsy about having very limited access to my blog (which is why I haven’t posted as often as I would have).  It’s been a little difficult, but I’m excited for my husband, because he is near completing the writing project he’s been working on for over 10 years.  It’s a wonderful work; I look forward to sharing it when it’s released.
I mention my “Pentium-based system” because my husband is a “Mac” man.  He’s been extolling the virtues of Mac since I met him almost seven years ago.  I, on the other hand, grew up on IBM’s in the 80s.  DOS, MS-DOS, “c” prompt, etc.  I love my Dell, in fact.  However, I am now frustrated, because it appears my system may have been exposed to a virus or worm or something else that doesn’t belong.  (Supposedly my ISP software is supposed to take care of these things.  I love my ISP, so I won’t name names.)  And my husband frequently tells me the Mac doesn’t have the same issues of exposure to viruses, trojans, worms, and other nasty parasitic data creatures longing to infect the insides of my dear Dell.
So I’m actually considering moving over to the Mac platform.  Considering it…with some reluctance.  Does anyone out there have any thoughts about Mac vs. PC, especially for blogging?  (And please, don’t refer me to that commercial Apple™ runs with the “conservative, uptight” guy and the “hip, artsy” guy…I get offended every time!)

I had the same issues with our hp pc with random problems that seem to fix themselves only to come back. Troubleshooting endlessly for problems that couldn’t be seen by system tools. I really wanted a laptop and silly and superficial as it may be wanted an apple after seeing Al Gore using on in the Inconvenient Truth documentary and learning he was a large shareholder and member of the board. I had to sell the price to my husband and after two weeks of research convinced him of the quality of a IMac got one for Christmas. I love my apple. I use blogger and decided to utilize firefox which I also love. Firefox has the handy feature of performancing, Want to write more but son is wigging out.

Listen to your husband and join the apple club and say goodbye to viruses.

    Hi Danielle,

I just read your comment to my husband and he is cracking up! Cracking up times two! He’s looking at me and saying “I’m not going to do it again…” He just said, “Thank you so much for being sensible enough to impart your wisdom to my wife regarding this bone of contention that I can now bury.”

I say, “Until you buy me one, it will still be a bone…”
