I see her often. A little girl. She’s about four years old. She is wearing a powder blue dress. She is walking in the house with her back toward the wall, sliding against it ever so slowly, like there’s something amiss. Like she’s trying to hide something. And indeed she is.
Her dress is torn. In the back. It’s ripped. And she’s sad. Very sad. Like once she’s found out, she will never be loved again.
That pretty blue dress. It’s ruined. It can’t be repaired.
They’ll be angry. What will they do? What should she do?

Thank you, everyone, for commenting on this post. The little girl was me at about 4 years old, from what I can remember. I think this may have been the beginning of a journey of pain and not learning how to deal with it. I don’t want my daughter going through life not knowing how to deal with pain, not knowing that no matter what, her parents will always love her. So I’m contemplating writing a novel that will communicate some of those things, and this was my attempt to start that novel.
The signature at the bottom of the post is mine. I’ll post about it in a second.
And yes, the seniors are gone now, Paula! They have exams this week and next, and they graduate on May 19th!
