Hi Yemi, I would guess it might be hard to write about something that goes so against the natural course of things when you're so close to it.

Thanks for visiting me. I visited your blog, and I really enjoyed it. You and your son are absolutely beautiful. And thank you for letting us know what "buchela" means! I've subscribed to your blog, so I'll be visiting regularly.

Being from Ethiopia, where there is a lot of human suffering, that whole idea of the secret pissed me off to no end. I just didn't have the energy to write about it... too much emotions and not enough distance.

So, when I read this entry, I was pretty pleased you wrote about it. I was also happy to find the Salon article.

Thanks.

Hi SolShine7,
It was great to find your blog at the party, which was interesting. I'm glad I could direct you to Scribbles on the Den. Like I said, he got to my blog just that day and I found it to be full of information.

Hi Paula,
One of the problems in the church today, in my opinion, is church leadership. Very often, pastors will entice their members into thinking that they themselves should be their only authority. And because of whatever emotional/psychological pain it fills, congregants often get duped out of ignorance. The charisma of a church leader is so powerful to people that often those same people can't think straight. And as we know, anyone can interpret scripture to mean what they think they want it to say, if not read and analyzed in their historical, literary, theological contexts. It's more sad to me than anything, because no one will be there for them when it does come crashing down.

Hi KWiz -

Yes, I thought about that too with "Jesus of Suburbia" and his followers.

Nowhere in the Bible does it say that there is no more sin.

I keep wondering if his followers have read Scripture for themselves.

But like you say, it will all come crashing down.

God doesn't just let rampant sex and partying and what-not go on forever with consequence...

I watched a little bit of Oprah's show when she had "The Secret" authors on. I could only take so much of that fluff, I had to change the channel. I can't remember hearing one original idea presented . It was all warped regurgitated wisdom drowned in a bunch of self-importance.

There's more REAL wisdom in one chapter of Proverbs that everything offered in "The Secret".

As far as that suburban wannabe goes...this is all new to me. It's really sad that he's misleading people like that.

Great post! And thanks for stopping by my blog and suggesting Scribbles on the Den.

Hi Madena,

You are so right. It was scary watching the program about Jose de Jesus because he claims to have one million followers (mostly Latino). These people have been duped into believing he is the second coming of Christ, based upon nothing. They're giving their money, their very lives. And one day, it will come crashing down. Who's going to be there for them when it does? de Jesus won't. He might just be dead or in jail somewhere, and their hopes for what they thought was truth will go down the drain. And as we know, the only one who is able to save is Jesus, who has not come back yet, but will someday.

Thanks Madena!

KWiz,

What is so dangerous is that there a many lost and lonely people out there who are looking for something to grab onto. When individuals come around with these "everything is great, there is no right or wrong" answers and taking the Bible out of context lost souls don't take the time to research the truth for themselves, they just latch on. It just proves how important it is for us to continue to spread the truth. Notice I didn't say "the truth as I see it" or "in my opinion the truth is.." I simply said the truth. For those who don't believe in absolutes "you are contradicting yourself by saying there is no absolute truth". You are saying "the truth is there is no absolute truth".

Food for thought! Keep fighting the good fight:-)
